For the following modules of the Master's Program Computer Science,
courses are offered on a regular basis by the professors of the
Research Institute for Discrete Mathematics:
-
Lecture "Combinatorial Optimization" (Modulnummer: MA-INF 1102):
This introductory lecture is held every winter term and designed for students
in their first semester. It comprises four hours and complementary two-hour
exercises per week.
-
Lecture "Approximation Algorithms for NP-Hard Problems" (MA-INF 1201):
This four-hour lecture with two hours exercises is offered every summer term
and should be attended during the second semester.
-
Lecture "Chip Design" (MA-INF 1202)
This four-hour lecture with two-hour exercises is held in the summer term as
well. It is designed for students in their second semester.
-
"Seminar on Discrete Optimization" (MA-INF 1205):
This seminar is held every summer term and should be attended during the
second semester.
-
Practical Training "Combinatorial Algorithms" (MA-INF 1207):
This practical training course is devoted to the implementation of
combinatorial algorithms. It is offered every summer term and shall be
attended during second or fourth semester.
-
"Graduate Seminar on Applied Combinatorial Optimization" (MA-INF 1305):
This seminar is offered every winter term and should be attended during
the third semester.
-
Practical Training "Algorithms for Chip Design" (MA-INF 1308):
This practical training course is offered every winter term and designed
for students in their third semester.
Successful participation in the exercises is an absolute requirement for
permission for module examination where exercises are offered with the
lectures.
The semester numbers mentioned above refer to a start of studies in the
winter term. Should you take up studies in the summer term, the modules
MA-INF 1201 or MA-INF 1202 are recommended as a start, according to background
knowledge.
Of course, it is also possible to set the focus on Discrete Mathematics and
to write a master's thesis (MA-INF 0401) at the Research Institute for
Discrete Mathematics.
Those students who are willing to do so, should contact one of the institute's
professors well in time.
All courses in the master's program are in English.
This information applies subject to a different decision by the Board
of Examiners.
More detailed descriptions of these and all other modules of the
Master's Program Computer Science are given in the
module handbook.
